I software per la progettazione di piste, lo ammetto , mi hanno sempre annoiato a morte. Professionali, certo assolvono al compito per cui sono stati progettati, ma lo fanno proprio con mestizia: insomma sono tristi come le sale d’aspetto di una stazione, banali nella loro stretta utilità e facili e intuitivi da usare come una centrale atomica russa. Brutti da far male agli occhi. Roba da ingegnere.
Ed è un ingegnere che mi ha fatto ricredere: Mark Erik Prinz, ingegnere aeronautico e slottista che – dice di se – ha “iniziato la carriera presso il dipartimento di engine development di un famoso produttore di automobili tedesco situato a Stoccarda”, ha realizzato Autorennbahnplaner, un software per il disegno e la progettazione di piste slotcar Carrera, non solo completo di ogni funzione desiderabile, ma è anche decisamente bello, dotato di una grafica contemporaneamente funzionale ed estetica, capace di trasmettere informazioni e sensazioni di una qualità che altrove non ho mai trovato.
Se a questo poi ci aggiungiamo viewer C3D un viewer 3d che permette la visualizzazione di un rendering della pista navigabile con viste manipolabili a piacimento abbiamo la migliore esperienza di progettazione possibile al momento.
La bellezza trasmette qualità, anche nei software per tracciare piste per slotcar. E si legge dalle parole di Mark, che abbiamo intervistato e che gentilmente ci ha risposto, quanto la bellezza e la qualità nascano dalla passione e dalla voglia di fare una cosa veramente ben fatta. Conoscendo un po’ il mondo dello sviluppo e della programmazione software, vi posso confermare che la piccola cifra che ci viene chiesta per acquistarlo, non lo ripagherà certo del tempo e dell’ingegno speso per realizzarlo.

Tu sei indipendente da Carrera. Perchè hai fatto un software così originale e così particolare per Carrera?
Beh, in Germania Carrera non è solo uno fra tanti marchi slotcar, ma il produttore slotcar con una quota di mercato ben oltre il 90%. Statisticamente ogni ragazzo in Germania, nella sua vita ha avuto almeno una volta una pista slot di Carrera. Anch’io sono cresciuto con Carrera. Se fossi nato nel Regno Unito o in Spagna sarebbe potuto essere diverso – ma qui Carrera è l’unica e la sola.
Al principio il software è stato progettato per le mie esigenze personali. Ma già dalla prima versione, quando l’ho pubblicato sul mio sito web privato, ha suscitato molto interesse ed è così che fondamentalmente tutto è cominciato.
Quali sono le caratteristiche che distinguono il tuo software dagli altri ?
Mi piace lo slotcar racing, mi piace Carrera e mi piacciono le cose che danno la sensazione agli utenti che qualcuno si è impegnato a fondo per la loro progettazione. Per me è davvero difficile dire che cosa è il “segreto del successo”. Ma credo che le persone sentono che non è solo “un’altra applicazione software”, ma che è stata fatta con “amore”. Inoltre cerco sempre di ascoltare la comunità degli utenti per aggiungere nuove funzionalità. Il software è facile da installare, facile da usare, localizzato in diverse lingue e supporta sia Windows che Mac OS.
Da quanto tempo lo stai sviluppando? Cercando in rete ho visto che si parla di questo software credo da tre anni…
Lo sviluppo è ancora in corso. La prima versione era disponibile già nel 2003. Le principali tappe sono state, nel 2006, 2009 e 2013, quando è stato riprogettato da zero, ripartendo da un foglio di carta bianca per farlo completamente nuovo.
Pensi in futuro di sviluppare nuovo software a supporto di Carrera o di sviluppare questo software anche per altre aziende?
Vi dirò un segreto – il software contiene già l’intero set degli elementi di una pista Scalextric ma non l’ho collegato ancora all’interfaccia utente. Il motivo è che attualmente non vedo vicino un grande mercato, e ho una stretta collaborazione con Carrera.
Il pubblico come ha reagito al tuo software? In molti in italia hanno apprezzato il tuo lavoro.
Grazie per questo a tutti Carreristi italiani. Sono felice di dire che ho feedback simili provenienti da tanti paesi. Mi stupisco a volte dal ricevere ordini per il mio software da tutto il mondo. La gente sembra davvero amarlo e mi invia immagini delle piste che hanno progettato con Autorennbahnplaner.
Quando pensate di rilasciare la versione 3d definitiva? Trovo il viewer geniale e utile, credo sia unico nel suo genere.
Lo è davvero. È stato progettato e commercializzato da Mathias Krack. Quindi non è una parte di Autorennbahnplaner, ma un ulteriore Add-On. Ci tengo molto a dirlo, perché è semplicemente geniale. Mathias ha trascorso anni nel suo sviluppo. Tutti dovrebbero dare un’occhiata più da vicino a questo software per vederne i dettagli: è perfetto. Alcune caratteristiche sono molto impegnative nella progettazione (ad esempio, il collegamento tra gli items “normali” e le curve sopraelevate), quindi non ho idea di quanto tempo ci vorrà a Mathias per fornire la versione definitiva.
Quanto è stato importante nello sviluppo del software il tuo lavoro di ingegnere aeronautico?
Devo ammettere che non comprendo la domanda 😉 ma essere a conoscenza delle nozioni di base della matematica in qualche modo mi hanno beneficiato nello sviluppo di questo software. Tuttavia non è necessario essere un ingegnere aeronautico per farlo. La matematica dietro il viewer 3D è molto più complicata e Mathias non è un ingegnere aeronautico;-)
A quali persone è utile questo software?
Vuoi dire per chi è utile? Tutti quelli che vogliono progettare una pista Carrera. Per essere precisi, tutti gli utenti tra i 6 e i 99 anni di età. Le piste progettate con Autorennbahnplaner sono spesso destinate ad essere costruite in un piccolo soggiorno, un asilo nido, una cantina o in soffitta, ma anche per organizzatore gli eventi dei Carrera club. Carrera stessa sta usando questo software, perché è l’unico con il quale si può facilmente progettare piste molto grandi. Così è stato utilizzato dagli organizzatori per la costruzione della pista di 5.000 metri usata per il record del mondo Carrera, e anche per la progettazione del Red Bull Ring in scala reale.
Le ultime domande riguardano Facebook. Ho visto per molto tempo la tua inserzione. e seguo la tua pagina. I social network hanno molta importanza per te?
Beh, Facebook è stata sostanzialmente destinato ad essere un’opzione per gli utenti a condividere le loro esperienze e i loro progetti. Ma in realtà diventa sempre più importante anche per raggiungere agli appassionati Carrera in tutto il mondo. Mentre in Germania Autorennbahnplaner è già molto famoso e facile da trovare, i potenziali utenti di altri paesi potrebbero non trovare il software. Pertanto i social media sono una buona occasione per creare un forte interesse 😉
Hai ottenuto i risultati attesi? meglio? Peggio?
Non mi aspetto nulla. Tuttavia sono felice quando gli utenti hanno la possibilità di condividere i propri progetti e le immagini delle loro piste su Facebook.

1) You are independent from Carrera. Why have you done for Carrera software so original and so special?
Well, in Germany Carrera is not just another brand of a slotcar manufacturer, but THE slotcar manufacturer with a market share far beyond 90%. Statistically each and every boy in Germany at least once in his lifetime has a Carrera slot track. So am I. I grew up with Carrera. If I would life in the UK or Spain it might have been different – but here Carrera is the one and only.
At the very beginning the software was only designed for my personal needs. But already the first version, when I uploaded it to my private website founds a lot of interest and that is basically how it all began.
2) What are the characteristics that distinguish your software from the others?
I love slot racing, I love Carrera and I love “things” which give the feeling to the user that somebody in the back really makes up his mind in designing it. For me it is really hard to say what is the “secret of success”. But I guess that people feel that it is not just another software application but one which was made with “love”. In addition I always try to listen to the user community and add new features which are requested by the community. The software is easy to install, easy to use, provides different language and supports Windows as well as Mac OS
3) How long are you developing? Searching the net I saw you speak of this software I think three years …
The development is ongoing. The first version was available in 2003. Major milestones have been in 2006, 2009 and 2013 when it was redesigned from the scratch, meaning I started on a white paper sheet to do it completely new.
4) Think in the future to develop new software to support Carrera or develop this software for other companies?
I will tell you a secret – the software already contains the entire set of track items for Scalextric but I didn`t link it to the user interface yet. The reason is that I currently do not see a big market in my backyard and that I have a close cooperation with Carrera.
5) The public how he reacted to your software? Many in Italy have appreciated your work.
Thanks for that to all Carreristi in Italy. I happy to say that I receive similar feedback from all over the world. I am sometime very surprised from which countries all over the world I receive orders for my software. People really seem to love it and send me pictures of the tracks they designed with the Autorennbahnplaner software.
6) When will you release the final version 3d? I find the viewer ingenious and useful, I think is unique.
It really is. It is designed and marketed by Mathias Krack. So it is not a part of the Autorennbahnplaner but an additional AddOn. I don`t ever want to miss it again because it is simply brilliant. And Mathias spent years in its development. Everyone should take a closer look to this software and see the details – it is perfect. Some features are very challenging in the design (e. g. the connection between “normal” items and the high banked curves), so I have no idea how long it will take him to provide the final version.
7) How important was the development of the software your work aeronautical engineer?
I have to admit that I didn`t get the question – but being familiar with some basics in mathematics was somehow of benefit when developing this software 😉 Nevertheless you do not have to be an aeronautical engineer to do so. Mathematics behind the 3D viewer are much more complicated and Mathias is not an aeronautical engineer 😉
8) What people useful is this software?
You mean for whom it is useful? Everybody, who wants to design a Carrera track. To be honest, the users are from 6 to 99 years of age. The tracks designed with the Autorennbahnplaner are most often intended to be built up in a small living room, a nursery, a cellar or at the garret but also event organizer, Carrera clubs and also Carrera itself is using this software because it is the only one by which you easily can design very huge tracks. So it was used by the organizers of the Carrera world record, when building a 5.000m track as well as by Carrera when designing the RedBull Ring in real scale.
The last questions are about Facebook.
9) I have seen for a long time your listing. and I follow your page. Social networks have a lot of importance to you?
Well, the platform was basically intended to be an option for the users to share their experiences and track designs. But in fact it becomes more and more important also in terms of getting known to Carrera fans all over the world. While in Germany the Autorennbahnplaner is already very famous and easy to find, potential users in other countries might find it challenging to find the software. Therefore social media are a good opportunity for some higher attention 😉
10) you get the results you were expecting? better? worse?
I didn`t expect anything. Nevertheless I would be happy if users take the opportunity to share their track designs and pictures of their tracks on Facebook.
